Ninety-nine percent of the time we write about digital marketing. After all it's what we do so we try and use this blog to offer our opinions on the state of digital marketing or provide information so people know about something new in the digital marketing space.
But every now and again we find a subject beyond the world of digital marketing and that subject is the magic of Tim Tebow and what we can learn from it.
Tim Tebow took over the Denver Broncos when they are 1-4. They are now 8-5. Tebow has had two wins in overtime just this year and yesterday's comeback was nothing sort of miraculous. Why? The other team had the ball, up by two scores with less than two minutes to play.
“If you believe,” Tebow said, “then unbelievable things can sometimes be possible.”
Sounds a lot like a definition of magic, making the unbelievable possible. And that's what happened. The Bears running back made a big mistake and Tebow came back and got his team to tie the game and then followed it up with another score.
There are a few things to learn by watching this story unfold.
- When you are selling something or pushing a new technology, you have to have faith in your abilities or you will simply not be able to make that sell. You will not be able to win.
- The power of one individual to make a team rise above the sum of its parts can be seen in the Broncos and emulated in ANY organization big or small. Why? because you are winning, making sales, growing a company, you aren't losing, stagnated or middle of the back. When the people around you start believing and having faith in the abilities of their leaders than the team is bigger than its members.
- No matter where you start, or the current score, you can always turn things around and still win.
- Being both in marketing as well as being a serial start-up veterans, we simply believe you have to have faith. Faith in your product, your team and ultimately in yourself. Marketing and start-ups can be extremely frustrating and stressful endeavors. If you have talent, discipline and continue to work hard, faith can help keep you rolling along on those days when the phone isn't ringing or the email isn't dinging.
Tebow has been the story of the NFL this year. He has in a short amount of time taken a team and made them believers. He has made the fans believers and now he is beginning to make his competition believe he can manufacture a miracle. These are lessons to learn from watching sport. Believing not only in yourself but putting maximum faith in others is what sport and business can be at their highest levels and they are lessons worth emulating.
