Mikhail Prokhorov Vs. The Owner of Nets.com
Most SEO managers deal with redirects on a daily basis; taking 404 error URLs, and redirecting them to the correct pages. In SEO, redirects usually indicate that a webpage has been redirected to the correct page, and is fixed. Well, it looks like Brooklyn Nets owner, Mikhail Prokhorov, might not have the same favorable opinion of redirects.
Prokhorov should be all means be enjoying the success of his NBA franchise, who just bested the Toronto Raptors in a 7 game series, and will now face the Miami Heat. The only issue with this scenario is that Nets.com redirects to the official home page of the Miami Heat.
Home Page of the Miami Heat
In a practice that is commonly known as “cybersquatting”, it appears as though someone with a lot of foresight bought the domain, before the Nets or the NBA had the opportunity, and is now using it to taunt Mikhail Prokhorov.
The cybersquatter has had negotiations with Prokhorov in the past. He has asked for as much as seven figures in return for ownership of the domain. Although, Prokhorov has decided that owning nets.com wasn’t worth the price tag.
In retaliation, the squatter has made reference to Mikhail Prokhorov’s feud with Mark Cuban, his 2007 prostitution scandal, and has also redirected the domain to a Jay-Z fansite, and a ballot for voting New York Knicks players into the NBA All-Star Game in the past.
There’s no telling where the cybersquatter will redirect the domain next. But, that doesn’t make this whole thing any less hilarious.
