A Learning Experience of a Lifetime
And here goes my last official assignment at Digital Firefly Marketing…
Never in my life has a span of 10 weeks flown by so quickly. This summer I dove into the world of digital marketing, and I learned A LOT. Coming into this internship I thought I would be helping out with some social media; and maybe contributing a few ideas here or there. Instead, I have had several of my own projects including social media, search engine optimization, design work, and even website management (I never thought I’d turn into a search engine optimizer or an HTML coder!). I started a Google doc of my internship takeaways on my first day, and after 50 work-filled days, it has become a solid 4 pages worth of concepts that I now have experience in. Boy has it been a learning experience!
Working at Digital Firefly this summer has been one of the most fulfilling, fast-paced, learning experiences I have ever had. One thing I appreciated most is how much everyone encouraged my participation in each and every aspect of this company: SEO, Web Management, Content and Social Media Marketing, and Reputation Management. As the only intern in the office, there was never a time where I felt like I did not have enough work to do, or that the work I was doing was unimportant. The assignments continued to pile on my desk and at times I did feel very overwhelmed, but in a good way! On weekday evenings and weekend nights, I found myself wanting to log on and finish my tasks, because they were simply fun for me to do.
What I’ve Accomplished
Over the course of the summer, I was able to work directly with clients; to start, develop and publish my own projects. I don’t think I would have gotten this chance anywhere else. I was able to incorporate my prior experiences and personal passions into my work, which made coming to the office every day so much more exciting. It was cool because I was implementing what I already knew and learning at the same time.
I remember on my first day of work when I jokingly told DFM’s CEO, John, that it was my dream to become #pinfamous. Little did I know that by the end of the summer I would have managed 4 Pinterest accounts on my own; regularly posting pins as well as designing board covers for clients. This was probably my favorite project because I was able to start something completely from scratch, plan out a content calendar, put it into action, and see the results.
I feel more than ready to finish my last year of school and head out into the marketing industry, taking with me everything that I have gained this summer. To everyone at DFM – thank you for an unforgettable summer.
