Why Mobile Websites Are Important

mobile websitesMore and more people each day open their phones or tablets and window shop from the comfort of their homes, offices, bathrooms, kitchens, etc. I’ll get to my point quickly so that you fully understand where I’m going with this… If you have an Ecommerce site make sure its mobile compatible and make sure it’s optimized, even AdWords has proven to be more beneficial when specifically geared towards mobile searches, about 65% more beneficial.

None of the following information should really come to a surprise considering the overly connected times we live in today. A little over a year ago comScore reported that 13.3% of total page views in August of 2012 were viewed via mobile devices. Luckily they also did the math and back then it was roughly 1 in 8. I can only imagine how much this has jumped since then. Further more, 77% of mobile searches are done in a location, work or home, in which a computer is readily available. Two things to take from this: 1. Ecommerce or not get a mobile site. 2. We are extremely lazy human beings

The fact that people admitted to using their mobile device because they didn’t want to get up and “boot up” the computer is very worrying to me, and who says “boot up” anymore? Either way we live in a connected mobile society so make your business mobile accessible.

So maybe your not convinced yet or maybe you don’t want to put up the green to make a mobile friendly site. Consider the following, 3 out of 4 mobile searches trigger 2 follow up actions (more research, phone call, store visit, purchase, word of mouth sharing). Of these 3 out of 4, 55% of these conversions happen within 1 hour. Now I wish I could take credit for this information and research but the all seeing Google may deem me untrustworthy, for now they can have their kicks.

Why Mobile Designs Matter

It doesn’t make much sense for any and all pages NOT to have a mobile friendly site. Whether you are ecommerce based or not; these types of statistics should have you on the phone right now with your marketing team, web developers, and SEOers, screaming to the high heavens asking “why don’t we have a mobile site?!” and “how quickly can we get one up?!”. Here’s one more number to hopefully persuade you to heed my words… 61% of consumers who visit a mobile ‘unfriendly’ site are likely to go to a competitor’s site. At this point your mind should be blown.

Especially with the holiday season around the corner it’s a good idea to ramp up both web based and mobile friendly sites. So what if its still 92 degrees outside, at least where I am, get that holiday optimization rolling. At the very least start to build a strategy to implement as the end of the year draws near. An ad here, some keyword research there, social media content planned and scheduled and you’ll be good to go. According to Econsulantcy’s Christmas online shopping survey, in 2012 24% of shoppers used their mobile devise for Christmas shopping.

I could go on and on, but I feel as though I have gotten my point across. Go forth, and really consider a mobile friendly site and what benefits it can bring to your business. The way I see it your going to have to do it eventually, what are you waiting for?
