How to Find Backlink Prospects

We were recently asked by one of our clients how we go about finding backlink prospects. While there are different methods for finding these prospects, we thought we’d share a couple that we use here at Digital Firefly Marketing.
In order to begin getting backlinks, you need to come up with some prospects. We have a couple of ways of doing this.
Link Research Tools
The first way is to use Link Research Tools, or a similar tool, in which you input some data and receive a list of possible prospects, which you could contact for links. They also have a tool that gives you the contact information of the webmasters, to make emailing them a bit easier.
Doing your own Google Search Queries
The other method is by doing your own Google search queries. You can use the blogging section of Google to look for potential blogs to link to your website, or you can look up sites that typically link to websites like yours, (ie: directories). When looking up these websites, you can use the following commands to limit your results:
“search query” links- When you input your search query, use the term links after to look for pages with links about that topic.
inurl: “search query” – Use the command inurl: to find links propects that have a specific phrase in the url of their website. So if you’re using the search query “inurl: digital marketing links”, you can see any sites that have the phrase “digital marketing links” in the url.
Allintitle: – This command is just like the last one, except it searches for website with your query in the page title, rather than the URL.
Now that you have prospects, you can contact the webmaster and ask them for a link. Just make sure you do some keyword research if you’d like them to use a specific keyword in the anchor text.
