In our now annual Thanksgiving traditions we present another installment of how to set a table for thanksgiving to not only pass on our knowledge of table settings but also show how items that trend upwards on Thanksgiving and other holidays can be used to your advantage. We typically get a spike in traffic because we rank highly for “How to set a table” which people Google during Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter
So on that note – how to set a table for thanksgiving.
- The table should correspond to what you are having for dinner. If you are having soup, you should have soup bowls out, if not, there is no reason to have bowls out.
- Depending on the size of your thanksgiving, consider doing the Thanksgiving buffet style, freeing up the table for center pieces, flowers, salt shakers and other items. This will also help everyone get their food quickly rather than having a Thanksgiving traffic jam of people passing food left to right.
- Put dessert plates and coffee cups next to the pies so they aren’t cluttering up the table.
Now that we have gotten most of the extraneous items off the table, it’s time to actually get down to setting it
- Take out your china and wipe them off with a clean cloth.
- Take out any crystal and wash them with HOT water and wipe clean.
- Put your center piece on the table, flowers, pumpkins, etc.
- At each table setting, set a plate and each utensil equidistant from the one on the other side so the center is the middle of the plate. Utensils go in reverse order, so dessert fork, then dinner fork and then salad fork on the left and on the right dinner knife and soup spoon. It’s ok if there are three items on one side and two on the left.
- Place the napkin folded on the plate or to the left of the forks. We recommend on the plate as it saves room and acts as a cover.
- Take your bread plate and put it to the upper left above the forks.
- Take your glasses and put them to the upper right above the knives.
That’s it your done! Let’s eat!
