Logo Design Challenge with Aaron Draplin

Happy Friday, everyone! I came across Lynda.com’s youtube channel and found this video. Lynda.com challenged Aaron Draplin, owner of Draplin Design Co. to create a dozen iterations of a logo for a fictional company. Aaron shares his design process from sketching to working in Illustrator. He goes through each iteration. Along the way he provides tips for freelancing, finding inspiration and providing clients context for logos that won’t just live in PDFs. I love when designers take you into their world and show their process and where they get their inspiration. This is a very informative and inspirational video. Hope you enjoy!

Our professional designers have their own unique processes. First, they work with clients to understand everything from mission to aesthetic. Then they sketch several different ideas, communicating with the client to gain deeper understanding. Next, they agree on an overall concept. The concept includes the general look and feel including color scheme. Finally, several versions of the final product are drawn to capture the client’s vision.
